Question 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?
All media products must keep their target audience in their mind when designing their product. This is because the media companies need to know what their audience likes so they can keep them paying their products and bring more people in. what the media product can do to keep their audience pleased is changing the content and the design to what the audience likes.
Demographics are statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it. A VALs is a proprietary research methodology used for psychographic market segmentation. Media products will use demographics and VALs to see who there audience is and to understand them as much as they can. They will do this so they can add or take things away from there product to match what there target audience wants so they bring more customers in and keep the people who normally buy there product there too.
For our planning we produced a readership profile similar to the NME profile to understand more about our target audience. A readership profile is a whole page dedicated to the target audience; it will include the key stats about them such as most popular gender, median age and more. It will also talk about what the audience likes and what they do for fun films and music.

Magazine Peer Review Reflection
Magazine
Peer Review Reflection
After having my magazine reviewed by a group of students in my
class I have found a clear target audience, things I have done well and things
that I can improve to make my magazine better.
Firstly, from the peer review I very clearly found that my target
audience was for young people such as teenagers and young adults. The first
reason for this is that the music referenced this is because; the music I used
was what the people around the age of the target audience would like. Another
reason why they said my target audience would be this is that the models I have
used for the photos are young aged people; this would show to the reader that
the target audience would be around the age of the models as you can see in
popular magazines.
About the appeal of my magazine, I can see from the peer review
that the masthead and the subheadings were the most appealing. This is because
they were the most defined and as they are very clear and bold they can easily
catch the eye of the reader. This is a good thing as the masthead and the
subheadings are supposed to be like this as they are the thing the customer
would look for when trying to find a magazine and brings there attention to
mine and not others.
In the review they talked about brand recognition, the thought
about mine was that my masthead had to be more unique to get readers to see
something like it and instantly think about my magazine. Brand recognition is an
important thing as it will make your magazine more popular and easier to
remember for the readers as they have something they can remember about your
magazine.
Because of this, the improvements my peer’s said would help my
magazine would be to improve the masthead. They said make it so that it stands
out more and add something to it so it becomes more recognisable and memorable
to the public.
Overall in the review, they thought my magazine is set out well
making it clear and concise. This is because of the neat organisation so that
the magazine isn’t smothering you with unwanted colours and fonts. This overall
makes the magazine very interesting and easy on the eyes.
